Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa told The Washington Post:

“I’ve fought in many wars, but I have never caused the death of an innocent person.

Anyone who takes up arms must have a strong moral foundation.

Our region has suffered from Western and U.S. policies, and today, many Americans agree with us — that some of those policies were mistakes, leading to needless wars and immense human suffering.”
