Footage posted earlier today on the Chinese social media platform WeChat shows the collapse of a large section of the Hongqi Bridge in Sichuan Province, southwestern China, on Tuesday morning. The 758-meter-long bridge, completed earlier this year to connect China’s heartland with Tibet, had been closed by police on Monday after inspectors discovered significant cracks in its concrete structure. The damage was reportedly caused by worsening conditions and landslides on a nearby mountain, which appear to have led to the bridge’s collapse on November 11.
