The United States is engaged in ongoing discussions with Türkiye about its desire to rejoin the F-35 program and its continued possession of the Russian-made S-400 air defense system. Under U.S. law, Türkiye must cease operating and relinquish the S-400 in order to return to the F-35 program. The strong relationship between President Trump and President Erdoğan has created a new climate of cooperation, leading to the most productive talks on this issue in nearly a decade. We hope these discussions will produce a breakthrough in the coming months that satisfies the security needs of both the United States and Türkiye.
