While addressing sailors aboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73) at Fleet Activities Yokosuka in Japan yesterday, U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced that he will sign an executive order directing aircraft carriers to revert to steam-powered catapult systems, replacing General Atomics’ newly developed Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) currently used on the Gerald R. Ford-class carriers.
