According to Taiwan, 53 Chinese aircraft and 11 naval vessels were operating around the island as of 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Taiwan's Ministry of Defense reported that the Chinese forces conducted maneuvers aimed at refining encirclement and naval blockade tactics.

Experts suggest that such operations would likely be the first step taken by China in the event of an attempted invasion of the island.
