8.7 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE TRIGGERS PACIFIC TSUNAMI ALERT 🔴
HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW:
• A powerful 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula earlier today.
• The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued tsunami warnings and watches across a wide stretch of the Pacific Rim.
• Waves have already reached coastal areas of Kamchatka, with flooding reported in Severo-Kurilsk.
• A tsunami wave approximately 13 feet (4 meters) high was recorded in the Yelizovsky district.
• Alerts are currently in effect for Hawaii, the Pacific coast of Japan, Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, and the U.S. West Coast—including California, Oregon, and Washington.
• In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, initial reports indicate extensive structural damage.
• Authorities across affected regions are urging residents near coastlines to evacuate immediately and move to higher elevations.
