On Thursday, the Lebanese Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and President Joseph Aoun, approved the goals of a U.S. proposal aiming to restrict heavy weapons possession exclusively to the state—effectively calling for Hezbollah’s disarmament. In protest, Hezbollah ministers and Shia members of the Cabinet walked out during the discussions. Hezbollah’s Political Council Deputy Chief, Mahmoud Komati, condemned the government’s decision as a “march of humiliation” and a surrender to Israel and the United States.
