In a slight setback yesterday to U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to purchase or otherwise annex Greenland, the Danish-French mining company Greenland Anorthosite Mining (GAM) was granted a 30-year mining permit by Greenland on Wednesday. The permit authorizes the extraction of anorthosite—a white rock primarily composed of aluminum, microsilica, and calcium—similar to the material retrieved from the Moon during NASA’s Apollo missions.
