According to a statement from the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), two Russian Tu-142 bombers were detected and tracked while operating within the Alaskan and Canadian Air Defense Identification Zones (ADIZ).

In response, the United States and Canada deployed U.S. Air Force F-35 and F-22 fighter jets, along with four KC-135 aerial refueling tankers, an E-3 AWACS surveillance aircraft, two Canadian CF-18 fighters, and a CC-150 tanker to identify, monitor, and intercept the Russian aircraft.

NORAD confirmed that the Russian bombers did not enter U.S. or Canadian sovereign airspace.
