According to CBS News, Pentagon officials have developed detailed plans for a potential deployment of U.S. ground forces into Iran, with senior commanders submitting specific proposals should President Donald Trump authorize such an operation.

Preparations reportedly include contingency plans for detaining Iranian personnel, including where prisoners of war would be held.

Forces involved in the buildup include the U.S. Army’s Immediate Response Force under the 82nd Airborne Division and roughly 5,000 Marines from the 11th and 31st Marine Expeditionary Units, now deploying to the Middle East.
