German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced plans for Germany to acquire Typhon missile systems and Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles as part of efforts to bolster deterrence against Russia. The systems would allow Germany to carry out deep strikes into Russian territory from launch positions in the eastern part of the country. The Block IV Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) has a range of approximately 1,000 miles (1,700 kilometers), making eastern Germany a strategically significant launch zone.
