During remarks in the Oval Office alongside Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Donald Trump was asked why the U.S. did not inform allies ahead of strikes on Iran.

“You don’t want to signal too much. We went in very hard, and we didn’t tell anybody because we wanted surprise. Who knows more about surprise than Japan? Why didn’t you tell me about Pearl Harbor?”
