Starting Tuesday, August 12, approximately 800 Soldiers from the District of Columbia National Guard will be activated and deployed across Washington, D.C., under orders from President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

According to directives from the Office of the Commanding General, these troops will serve as rapid-response units to protect federal property and operations, while also assisting both federal and local law enforcement. The deployment will run from August 11 to September 25, 2025, under “Title 32 Orders,” allowing Guardsmen to perform certain law enforcement duties without being fully federalized.

While Title 32 typically places Guardsmen under the authority of their state’s governor, the President serves as Commander-in-Chief of the D.C. National Guard.
