Multiple reports indicate that several firefighters were ambushed and shot while responding to what appears to have been a deliberately set brush fire near Coeur d’Alene in northern Idaho. Police are reportedly engaged in a firefight with one or more suspects firing from an elevated position, and additional support has been requested from Spokane, Washington.
A “Shelter-in-Place” order has been issued for the Canfield Mountain area as law enforcement continues to search for the suspect or suspects. The brush fire near Lake Hayden remains active.
Police reinforcements from neighboring counties in northern Idaho and Washington are arriving in Coeur d’Alene, including helicopters from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, as the manhunt intensifies for those responsible for the ambush.
