Ali Abbasi, director of the Iranian Al-Mustafa University, is currently visiting Brazil. The university was sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury in 2020 and later by Canada for hosting and training Shiite militias from Pakistan and Afghanistan in Syria.

According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Al-Mustafa University “functions as an international recruitment network for the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” which directs Iran’s overseas terrorist operations, as reported by the Infobae news outlet.
