
Wider satellite images confirm that the Russian fleet has departed from the port of Tartus in Syria but remains off the Syrian coast. Apparently, the withdrawal of the ships is a precautionary measure in light of the takeover of Tartus by anti-Assad forces. However, the fleet’s presence off the coast also indicates that Russia has not yet decided whether to withdraw them permanently. In other words, for now, the Kremlin is taking a wait-and-see approach.
