The Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome H. Powell, has released a statement confirming that the Justice Department under President Trump has launched an investigation into his testimony in front of the Senate Banking Committee, stating, “This new threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than the preferences of the President.”
