Sources within Hamas and other militant groups told Asharq Al-Awsat that meaningful progress in the hostage deal negotiations remains unlikely, citing Israel’s refusal to meet key demands. These include a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction of the region, and the lifting of the blockade.
The groups also insist that the release of Israeli hostages be staggered throughout the ceasefire period, and that the humanitarian conditions outlined in the January 2025 truce— which they claim Israel has failed to fully implement— be reinstated.
