The Royal Australian Air Force reached a major milestone in the future of air-to-air combat this week, after an Australian-designed and built Boeing MQ-28A “Ghost Bat” stealth multirole combat drone successfully tracked, engaged, and destroyed a Phoenix Jet uncrewed aerial target using an AIM-120 AMRAAM.
The test took place at the RAAF Woomera Range Complex (WRC), with the Ghost Bat operating as a Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) for a Boeing E-7A “Wedgetail” AEW&C aircraft, supported by an F/A-18F Super Hornet.
