In response to criticism from Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele proposed a swap: 252 Venezuelans deported by the U.S. for being involved in violent gangs and residing illegally would be sent back to Venezuela in exchange for 252 political prisoners held by the Chavista regime.

Maduro rejected the proposal and accused Bukele of human rights violations.
