The Pentagon reports that since National Guard troops were deployed to Washington, D.C. in August under Joint Task Force – D.C. (JTF-DC), the roughly 3,000 Airmen and Soldiers assigned have carried out a wide range of community improvement efforts. Their work includes collecting 979 bags of trash, spreading 1,045 cubic yards of mulch, removing five truckloads of plant waste, clearing 5.2 miles of roadway, cutting back vegetation along 1.5 miles of road, painting 270 feet of fencing, and packaging 6,030 pounds of food. The deployment, part of President Trump’s “D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force,” is scheduled to continue through at least December.
