In a Tuesday briefing to congressional staff, senior Pentagon officials disclosed that the suspected narco-terrorist vessel targeted last week by a U.S. MQ-9 “Reaper” firing an AGM-114 “Hellfire” missile in the Southern Caribbean had turned back before being struck and appeared to be heading toward Venezuela.

According to attendees who spoke with CNN, officials did not provide confirmation that the boat was Venezuelan, whether the crew were members of Tren de Aragua, its intended destination, if the individuals were armed, or whether they posed an imminent threat to U.S. forces.
