The word "rebels" often evokes images of brave fighters resisting dictators and tyrannical regimes, but reality is not always so romantic. It is true that Syria is ruled with an iron fist by Bashar al-Assad's dictatorship, which, in the past 14 years alone, has been responsible for the deaths of over 200,000 Arabs in a horrific civil war. However, the "rebels" who recently captured Aleppo are not "freedom fighters" but rather a volatile mix of jihadist groups, terrorists, and extremist nationalists.

In this video, some of the "rebels" can be seen carrying a jihadist flag in Aleppo. This flag is a "symbol of struggle" used by terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, ISIS, the Taliban, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

Assad is a murderous and cruel dictator, but the group that defeated him in Aleppo and continues to advance through other parts of Syria is no less extreme and ruthless.
