In 1989, the students who gathered in Tiananmen Square (the Square of Heavenly Peace) in Beijing, calling for more democracy, built a statue named “the Goddess of Democracy.” During the massacre ordered by the Chinese Communist Party, the statue was demolished, and in its place, a surveillance tower was erected — a structure that more accurately represents the values of communist China.
