“Chinese [People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN)] vessels sailed through waters in Japan’s southwest.
At around 10:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) spotted the following two PLAN vessels sailing southward in the waters approximately 110 km northeast of Miyako-jima Island.
- Luyang-III-class DDG (hull number 134)
- Sovremenny-class DDG (hull number 136)

[DDG- Guided Missile Destroyer]

The PLAN DDGs continued to sail southward through the waters between Okinawa Main Island and Miyako-jima Island into the Pacific Ocean. MSDF assets monitored the activities of these vessels.”
