Axios’ Barak Ravid reports that Israel’s strike on Hamas leaders in Doha today shocked the White House and angered several of President Trump’s senior advisers, as it came while the U.S. was still awaiting Hamas’ response to Trump’s latest proposal for a hostage deal and peace plan in Gaza.

According to three U.S. officials, Washington received no advance warning of the operation—the first indication came when American surveillance detected Israeli fighter jets flying east over Syria and Iraq toward the Persian Gulf. By the time Israel provided clarification, the missiles were already airborne.

President Trump was briefed just before the strike and directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to immediately alert the Qataris. However, a U.S. official said Witkoff’s call came only after the bombs had already struck their target in Doha.

Notably, Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer had met in Miami on Monday with Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. While Dermer apparently knew about the planned strike, he did not disclose anything during the meeting.
