According to Axios, the “secret nuclear proposal” drafted by the United States and presented to Iran on Saturday during a visit to Tehran by Oman’s Foreign Minister, would permit Iran to continue limited low-level uranium enrichment for an unspecified period. This comes despite public statements from both Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, who have insisted that the U.S. will not tolerate ongoing enrichment and will push for the dismantling of Iran’s enrichment facilities. The proposal is likely to provoke significant anger from Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who have made clear that they will accept nothing less than the complete dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear program, including its enrichment infrastructure, and have hinted at the possibility of future military strikes against Iran.
