For the first time since 1967, a Syrian head of state will address the United Nations in person, with President Ahmad al-Sharaa set to travel to New York City next week for the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly. The visit marks al-Sharaa’s first trip to the United States since taking power in January after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad. In addition to the historic appearance at the UN, al-Sharaa is also slated to speak at the 15th Annual Concordia Summit alongside hundreds of global leaders and influential figures.
