Under Taiwan’s defense doctrine, the top priority is to prevent the approach of Chinese landing ships and paratrooper assault aircraft—something that requires the use of anti-ship and anti-air missiles. The second priority is to strike and destroy any “beachheads” established by China in the event of a successful landing. For such missions, precision is critical, making HIMARS an ideal system.
