Umerov briefed President Zelenskyy on the details of recent talks with the Russian delegation in Istanbul.
“The Ukrainian delegation maintained a respectful and principled tone throughout. All Russian attempts at intimidation were firmly rejected. Ukraine continues to demand a full and unconditional ceasefire to preserve lives and create space for genuine diplomacy. We are not afraid of direct negotiations with Russia—but it’s critical that their leadership doesn’t drag out this war,” Zelenskyy said.
He also highlighted a key outcome of the meeting: an agreement on a prisoner exchange in a 1,000-for-1,000 format. Ukrainian officials are now working on the logistics of the deal.
