Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former President, responded to Trump:

“Regarding President Trump’s concerns: I condemn the U.S. strike on Iran—it failed to achieve its goals. However, Russia has no plans to supply nuclear weapons to Iran because, unlike Israel, we are signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

I am well aware of the implications, having overseen our nuclear forces as president. Other countries might act differently—that’s what was implied.

We certainly shouldn’t be competing over who has more nuclear weapons, especially since the New START treaty, which I once signed with a U.S. president, remains in effect—for now. The real question is: what happens next?”
