The Trump Administration has announced that states and cities that boycott Israeli-owned or Israeli-based companies will be ineligible for federal disaster relief and aid. In a notice issued Friday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) stated that jurisdictions must comply with its “terms and conditions,” which now include a requirement not to cut “commercial relations specifically with Israeli companies” in order to qualify for funding.

The affected funding includes approximately $1.9 billion in federal grants used by states for critical disaster preparedness needs, such as search-and-rescue equipment, emergency management salaries, and backup power systems. FEMA also said that major cities must comply with the new Israel-related condition to receive a share of $553.5 million allocated for counterterrorism efforts in high-density urban areas like New York City.
