The flag with the communist symbol of the Soviet Union was raised by Russia on top of a ruined building in Vuhledar, after 1 year and 11 months of intense fighting. The city, which before the war had 14,000 inhabitants, cost an estimated 20,000 Russians and 15,000 Ukrainians to be conquered.
