In a confusing post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald J. Trump took credit for deploying the National Guard to handle what he called “violent, instigating riots in California,” claiming, “If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated.” However, no National Guard troops were actually deployed to the streets during yesterday’s unrest. Their role was limited to guarding federal buildings in Los Angeles. All crowd control and riot response efforts were carried out by the LAPD, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), and California Highway Patrol (CHP), with no involvement from the National Guard in public order operations.
