The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has assessed that, in the lead-up to the August 15 summit in Anchorage, Alaska, Russia stockpiled drones and ballistic/cruise missiles while limiting strikes on Ukraine in an effort to appear as a “good-faith negotiator” to U.S. President Donald J. Trump. ISW warns that Russia is likely to intensify its attacks in the coming weeks, using its replenished missile and drone reserves to target Ukrainian energy infrastructure ahead of winter.
