A powerful earthquake struck Russia’s Far East this morning, with the USGS registering a magnitude 7.4 tremor about 70 miles east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

The city is home to the Russian Navy’s Rybachiy submarine base and the Air Force’s Yelizovo airbase.
