In an interview with NBC News on Sunday night, U.S. President Donald J. Trump expressed frustration with Russia over its continued attacks on civilians in Ukraine and the lack of progress in negotiations. “I’m disappointed in Russia,” he said, adding, “I think I’ll have a major statement to make on Russia on Monday.”
Trump also appeared to confirm reports that the U.S. is preparing new arms sales to NATO allies with the understanding that the weapons will ultimately be sent to Ukraine. “We’re sending weapons to NATO, and NATO is paying for those weapons—100%,” he said. “So what we’re doing is, the weapons that are going out are going to NATO, and then NATO is giving those weapons [to Ukraine], and NATO is paying for them.” He noted that the arrangement was finalized during the most recent NATO Summit.
