Speaking to reporters at the White House earlier, President Donald J. Trump again warned that the United States could intervene in Iran if the government resorts to mass violence against protesters.

“Iran is in big trouble. It looks like the people are taking over cities that nobody thought possible just a few weeks ago. We’re watching this very closely,” Trump said, adding that if authorities begin killing demonstrators, “we will get involved and hit them very hard where it hurts.”
