A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating as Air India flight AI171 crashed into a residential housing complex this morning shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India. On board were 242 passengers and crew, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. The housing complex struck by the aircraft was being used as a hostel for more than 200 local doctors. Indian authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of casualties.
