China 🇨🇳: On July 15, the Chinese government will launch “digital identities” for internet use, shifting the responsibility for online verification from private companies to the government.

Under the new system, individuals will obtain a digital identity by submitting a range of personal data — including facial scans — to the police via an app. This digital ID can then be used to register for and log into other apps or websites.
