Reuters reports that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump recently dismantled an interagency group responsible for crafting a strategy to ramp up pressure on Russia. The move reportedly stemmed from Trump’s increasing skepticism about the merits of taking a confrontational stance toward Moscow.
The group, led by senior National Security Council official Andrew Peek until his removal in May, included representatives from the State Department, Pentagon, Treasury, and U.S. intelligence agencies. It remains unclear who ultimately ordered the group’s disbandment.
