Senior Iranian official Kamal Kharazi told CNN that Iran is prepared for a prolonged war with the United States and will continue striking targets across the Persian Gulf to pressure regional allies to push Donald Trump to step back from the conflict.

Kharazi said diplomacy is currently off the table, arguing that the war will only end when economic pressure forces other countries to intervene and demand an end to the fighting.

Iran’s attacks have already disrupted Gulf energy infrastructure and severely reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. The disruption has driven crude prices above $100 per barrel and raised fears of a prolonged shock to global energy markets.
