The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine announced the successful completion of the first drone strike mission entirely conducted by Artificial Intelligence. According to the ministry, the drone flew 300 km and deployed two additional drones, which autonomously selected and attacked targets based on pre-recorded imagery stored in memory. Few additional details were provided, but the ministry stated that, in testing environments, the system is capable of recognizing targets such as anti-aircraft missile launchers and armored vehicles.
The drone's navigation system operates without GPS, instead reading the terrain and navigating using visual references it identifies, such as road intersections, bridges, rivers, and even specific houses and buildings.
According to the Ukrainian ministry, with such equipment, long-range drones become immune to electronic warfare systems, including those that attempt to disrupt the connection between the drone and its operator, as well as those that interfere with GPS signals.
