Russia has begun distributing pamphlets with advice for the wives of soldiers returning from the war on what to do if they are beaten by their husbands. Among the suggestions, Russia advises battered women not to speak about it in public so as not to harm their husbands’ careers, to use makeup to cover up bruises, and to reflect on their own behavior: “Am I provoking him?”
The final recommendation: “Ask your husband for forgiveness.”
