Iraqi officials have released new details about yesterday’s raid in northern Syria that killed Omar Abdul Qader Bassam, a senior ISIS external operations planner. According to the officials, the ground assault was conducted by U.S. Army Special Forces working alongside Iraq’s elite Special Operations Forces (ISOF), known as the Golden Division, and Syria’s Special Mission Forces, composed largely of former “Red Bands” fighters from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The operation was supported from the air by the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR).
